happy birthday, kaleb!

i can't believe you're 4 now. i remember bringing you home from the hospital like it was yesterday. i put you in a classic winnie the pooh sleeper with a matching beanie. i kept telling your dad, "be careful!" everytime he went over speedbumps and potholes (although i'm sure he was just as nervous about driving us home). i remember how you and i would gaze into each others eyes while you would clutch one of my fingers with your entire hand. i remember how sweet your toothless smile was and how i wanted you to stay that small forever. but i'm glad i couldn't trap time because i would've never known how hysterically funny you are, how caring you are, how smart you are and just so full of life for such a small boy. until you have kids of your own, you'll never know how you make my heart skip a beat when you tell me out of the blue, "i love you mommy".

and i love you, son.
